These highly expressive sounds are also great for keyboardists when used with a breath controller such as the Yamaha BC1, BC2, or BC3 plugged directly into the DX7 or into a device such as the MIDI Solutions Breath Controller Box or Anatek Wind Machine (out of production). The default engine sounds like a real hardware DX7 with all it’s 12 bit hiss,artifacts and, transient punch! When loaded into the open source VST Synthesizer “Dexed” –and level matched to my Hardware DX7 - the sound is perfect. When I obtained an original Yamaha DX7 I exported all the original stock DX7 patches as SysEx.
I located “Solid Bass” SysEx patches people posted online, and it all lacked transient clarity, and phat bottom end. It was a stock patch on the DX7 called “Solid Bass”. SOLID BASS – Love this bass patch in the mid / bass registers, also a famous techno patch from Orbitalįor awhile I sought the phat punchy low-end, authentic DX7 bass sound from the Orbital song “Halcyon On & On”. Grinder 6Y – Love this patch in the bass registers, also some famous techno patch I think Reminds me of the 90’s, breakbeat, techno, and modern dubstep. *PPG*Vol.4 – If this is as good as a replication of the PPG, as the Moog Rogue patch, then, PPG’s sound like crap 🙂īIGBADBASS – Awesome bass.
ORCH.SPACE – An absolute gem to play staccato / quicklyīRASSHINE – Reeks of 80’s PBS documentariesħth WAVE – Im a sucker for harmonics, love this one 🙂 MOOG ROGUE – Very nice sounding moog-ish bassīrass FULL – Massive mid-range, phat-low-end, 80’s pad sound LOW HIGH – A bell sound, the low notes can make some sick basslines, and the high notes sound nice too - add some reverb and woah! I present to you, the original stock patches from the Yamaha DX7 🙂
